IUD insertion/removal
Regardless of what chapter a woman is in life, whether she is single, dating, planning a family or post-pregnancy, it is important for her to know that her contraception is not only reliable, but also safe at any stage in her life.
Accurate and precise placement of an IUD is essential for successful contraception and comfort. Patients rely on their healthcare provider for accurate and precise placement. The procedure itself is not a complicated one, however, the procedure without the use of visual technology can present challenges, because in such a case it is typically performed blind as there is no visual aid to guide placement.
Not only can misplaced IUDs can cause unwanted pain and bleeding, but having being misplaced, they may not provide the expected contraceptive protection women are looking for.
This information is especially important when you consider research that shows most conventional IUDs are too big to fit inside the uterine cavities of many women.2-5
“There are a lot of women who think their IUD isn’t doing anything because they can’t see it or feel it—and that makes them worry,” Hanson noted. “I like to show my patients the detailed ultrasound images so they can see their IUD is in the right place, and that makes them feel a lot more confident about their birth control.”
Nexplanon insertion / removal
Canadian Diagnostic Clinic is proud to provide alternate options for women beyond that of the birth control pill. Nexplanon is a birth control implant that is placed in the arm. It is just as effective as the pill, but without having to take a daily pill. This small, thin, and flexible arm implant is placed discreetly under the skin of the inner, non-dominant upper arm by your healthcare provider.
Nexplanon is as effective as the pill without the daily hassle with less than one pregnancy incidence rate per 100 women who used Nexplanon for one year. Nexplanon lasts for 3 years without any daily, weekly, or monthly dosing, and must be removed by the end of the third year. Most importantly, it is reversible, so that if your plans change, it can be removed by your healthcare provider at any time.
Insertion
Nexplanon is placed discreetly just under the skin of your non-dominant upper arm by a trained healthcare provider. During this minor surgical procedure, the area is numbed, and an applicator guides Nexplanon into place. Immediately after insertion, you and your healthcare provider will feel for Nexplanon to ensure that it was inserted correctly.
Removal
A trained healthcare provider can remove Nexplanon at any time during the 3-year period. Removal of Nexplanon involves a minor surgical procedure by your healthcare provider and can be performed in the office through a small incision in your arm where Nexplanon is located.
You may become pregnant as early as a week after the removal of Nexplanon. If you do not want to get pregnant after your healthcare provider removes the Nexplanon implant, you should start another birth control method right away. Nexplanon must be removed by the end of the third year.
